Code of Conduct of Global Institute for Materials Research Tohoku Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University

The Global Institute for Materials Research Tohoku (GIMRT), with the aim of developing Tohoku University’s “Research First” tradition, “Open-Door” philosophy, and spirit of “Practice-Oriented Research and Education,” and in order to open our doors to the world, emphasize diversity, and promote international research activities, thereby carrying on the work of creating knowledge and culture shared by all humankind as well as contributing to social progress and growth through the fruits of these activities, hereby establishes our Code of Conduct.

  1. Researchers participating in GIMRT will comply with the principles of responsible conduct of research activities set forth by Tohoku University, and will always carry out responsible conduct of research activities.
  2. With recognition that the research results obtained through joint use and joint research are the common property of society, the researchers will strive to conduct research objectively, impartially, and transparently.
  3. The researchers will not engage in any misconducts or inappropriate conducts in the research activities, and will respect the public interest, and comply with the laws, regulations, guidelines, and the various rules and regulations of relevant countries and organizations.
  4. The researchers will strive to maintain research integrity, and never neglect self-improvement and learning.
  5. In research activities, GIMRT will not discriminate against any individual based on race, gender, status, ideology, religion, etc., and GIMRT will respect human character and strive to ensure diversity.
  6. GIMRT will follow the guidelines for conduct promoting gender equality established by Tohoku University, and work tirelessly to improve our activities toward promoting gender equality in academia, so that female researchers can play active roles.
  7. In order to foster young researchers who will be responsible for the future of academia, GIMRT will strive to secure an environment in which young researchers can play active roles.
  8. GIMRT will always have its doors open to the world and strive to develop international academic exchange in the spirit of mutual benefit.
